Howard Wakefield, Jr.

Director District 4

Statement: “I am seeking my first term on the board of Directors for the Rio Grande Electric Coop.

In 1964 I graduated from Uvalde High School and then attended SWTJC in Uvalde, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in 1966. This is where I met my wife, Suzon Bonner Wakefield.

During the Vietnam era I served with the U.S. Navy for four years aboard two different ships and deployed once to the Mediterranean Sea and twice to the Red Sea. Upon my honorable discharge we returned to San Antonio where I attended trade school and became a licensed Journeyman plumber/pipefitter.

In 1999 I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and accepted a position with a design engineering firm located in Overland Park, Kansas.

For the next 13 plus years I worked to design and construct numerous power plants, switchyards, and power distribution systems located throughout the United States and overseas in the People’s Republic of China and Afghanistan.

I retired in 2012, returning to the land in Kinney County my grandparents loved so much.

If elected, my purpose will be to serve the membership with integrity and fairness. I appreciate and thank the coop members for their honest consideration.”
