As we stand at the threshold of the New Year, I find myself contemplating the profound significance of “authentic,” a word crowned by Merriam-Webster as the beacon of 2023. In a manner beautifully befitting, this term seamlessly encapsulates the very ethos of Rio Grande Electric Cooperative (RGEC), extending its embrace to encompass not just the organization but also its dedicated employees and our vibrant cooperative community.
The essence of authenticity defined—”not false or imitation” and “true to one’s own personality, spirit or character,” harmoniously resonates with the core values that define RGEC. When we say RGEC is authentic, we affirm that our actions are genuine, untainted by falsehoods or imitations. In this edition, we unveil a preview of upcoming projects outlined in the Construction Work Plan, with approximately $26.7 million allocated for various system improvements this year.
Our commitment extends to essential inspections, exemplified by a conditional structural assessment of approximately 14,000 wood distribution structures. Aerial drone inspections will also be conducted, showcasing our dedication to innovation. We meticulously track each pole’s “birthdate,” GPS location, and estimated “life expectancy,” a testament to our proactive approach.
Rio Grande’s devotion to Cooperative Principles transcends borders. Our participation in the NRECA program brought power to the impoverished region of Matasanos, Zacapa, Guatemala. Witnessing local communities’ resilience and commitment to sustainable practices was truly inspiring. This international endeavor mirrors our dedication to cooperative principles.
