Summer Storms; Director Election
Wow! What a summer it has been thus far. Several portions of Rio Grande Electric Cooperative (RGEC)’s service territory have been hammered repeatedly by storms and sustained substantial damage time and time again. Some of you have endured outages in the heat, while line crews braved the temperature and storms to set poles, restring conductors, and conduct repairs to restore power. I read many of the comments posted to our social media pages, and I must say that I am always quite moved by your concern for the safety of the line crews. We always relay your messages of thanks to them, and they are deeply appreciative. Yes, they get paid to do what they do, but as the CEO of Rio Grande, I can attest to the fact that the attitudes of the Co-op’s crews, and their dedication to you go way beyond what they get paid to do. I am very proud of them all, and you can be, too.
Upcoming Director Election
With the director election on the horizon, I want to impress upon you the importance of the election to the health and well-being of the Cooperative. The democratic process is what makes cooperatives work. Rio Grande can only be strong if you are involved. Cooperatives depend on member engagement to lead them in the direction the majority of its membership believes is correct. This is why it is so important that you participate in the upcoming director election, which begins on the 9th of next month. The election runs from September 9 to October 9.
Selecting Rio Grande’s leadership is a task not to be taken lightly. When you receive your ballot – whether paper or electronic – included will be a biography of each candidate. Please take the time to review it and determine for yourself which candidates best represent your vision for Rio Grande. You may vote for 1 candidate in each of the director district races.
Easy Voting Process
We have made the voting process as easy as possible, including the option to vote by the traditional paper ballot method, online, and through the text message option. Regardless of which method you select, casting your ballot will help assure the strength and stability of RGEC today and into the future.
Owned By Those We Serve
Please take time to be engaged, ask questions, and to serve when possible. Rio Grande Electric Cooperative is quite literally “Owned By Those We Serve”. With ownership comes rights and responsibilities, and 1 of those responsibilities is voting in the director election.
There Is Nothing We Can’t Accomplish
I have said it before, and I truly believe that with a committed board of directors, a talented workforce, and an engaged membership, there is nothing we can’t accomplish.
