Rio Grande Electric Cooperative (RGEC) is pleased to announce the results of this year’s scholarship competition. The Co-op had a record number of applicants this year, and a total of $31,500 was awarded to 46 students throughout RGEC’s service territory.
In accordance with the RGEC bylaws: 40% of funds were awarded to current year high school graduates attending a college or university; 20% of funds were reserved for current year high school graduates pursuing a vocational/technical school education, and 40% of funds were awarded to Continuing Education student (prior scholarship recipients).
Scholarships are provided annually and are made possible through a process whereby a portion of unclaimed capital credits are returned to the Co-op by the state.

Continuing Education Recipients
The Co-op’s Continuing Education scholarship is open to students who are previous recipients of an RGEC scholarship. To qualify, applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited public or private university, college, or vocational/trade school, and have maintained a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. This year the board of directors awarded seventeen students the Continuing Education Scholarship, in the amount of $741.18.
